OBS Setup Guide

How to set up OBS Studio to stream to Aegis Command for the best results. Your footage is archived at full quality; the live view is optimized automatically.

1. Get OBS and your stream key

  • Download OBS Studio (free) from obsproject.com and install it.
  • Get your personal stream URL and key from the Go Live page — open the "Prefer OBS?" section — or ask an admin. Your key is permanent: set it once and reuse it forever.

2. Connect OBS (Settings -> Stream)

  • Service: Custom...
  • Server: paste the value below
  • Stream Key: live/YOURHANDLE?user=p&pass=YOURTOKEN (copy the exact key from the Go Live page)
rtmp://aegis.shadowflee.com/

Keep your stream key private. If it leaks, an admin can rotate it on the Participants page.

3. Encoder settings (Settings -> Output -> Output Mode: Advanced -> Streaming)

  • Encoder: NVIDIA NVENC H.264 if you have an NVIDIA GPU (best — offloads from your CPU). Otherwise x264.
  • Rate Control: CBR
  • Bitrate: 1080p60 -> 8000-12000 Kbps; 1440p60 -> 12000-20000; 4K -> 25000+. Higher = better archive quality.
  • Keyframe Interval: 2 (seconds)
  • Preset: NVENC "Quality"; x264 "veryfast"
  • Profile: high — fine to use. The server automatically makes a browser-friendly copy for live viewing, so your profile never breaks playback.

Your full-quality stream is what gets archived. The live mosaic view is auto-downscaled to 720p on the server, so high source resolution/bitrate will not slow down viewers.

4. Video (Settings -> Video)

  • Base (Canvas) Resolution: your game resolution (e.g. 1920x1080, 2560x1440, 3440x1440 ultrawide, 3840x2160).
  • Output (Scaled) Resolution: same as base for best quality, or lower it to save upload bandwidth.
  • FPS: 60 (or 30 to save bandwidth and CPU).

5. Audio

  • Capture Desktop Audio so your game audio is included.
  • Add a Mic/Aux source if you want commentary.
  • Do not stream copyrighted music — see the Legal page.

6. Go live and events

  • Click Start Streaming in OBS. If an event is currently live, your footage auto-attaches to it and shows up in the Archive; if no event is live, it still records under your handle.
  • Turn on auto-reconnect: Settings -> Advanced -> Network -> Automatically reconnect.

7. Not sure? Quick setup

Encoder NVENC H.264, Rate Control CBR, Keyframe Interval 2s, your native resolution at 60fps, bitrate ~10000 Kbps. Paste the server URL above and your key from Go Live. The server handles the rest.
